Appraisal performance

How closely retail references match sale outcomes, and where estimated margins need attention.

CONTEXT MATTERS

How comparisons are calculated

01

Connect the same vehicle

Used sales link to the latest eligible earlier appraisal for the same VIN, after any previous sale of that VIN. Exact stock numbers take priority; a blank appraisal stock number can be used when an exact match is unavailable. Conflicting stock numbers are excluded.

02

Compare on common ground

The benchmark requires exact VIN and stock, a sale within 180 days, manager assessment and rBook values above $1, nondecreasing mileage, and an appraisal last modified no later than the sale’s calendar date. Same-day ordering cannot be established from these exports.

03

Keep economics in context

“Appraisal” is the manager’s assessed value at trade-in or buy, and the cost the DMS books the car at. Recon costs are estimates. Estimated spread = sale price − manager assessment − estimated recon. It is not realized profit: it leaves out the pack, and actual recon can differ. Front gross from the DMS is realized front profit.

rBook gap = rBook − sale price. A positive gap means rBook was above the eventual sale. MAE is the mean absolute gap. rBook is a retail market reference, not an agreed future sale price.

Coverage limits. Results describe vehicles that sold and could be linked. Appraisal records are mutable exports, and later updates can affect historical comparisons. “Purchase?” blank does not mean “No.” Age is a source field provisionally interpreted as inventory days.
